The Samuel
A collaboration centred on sensory moments – announced with creative pride
Hellerup – a Southern European oasis north of Copenhagen with dark curtains, parquet floors and an open invitation to classic gastronomy. The Samuel wanted to create a moment that surprises and awakens the senses, long after the last bite has been swallowed.
The idea was as simple as it was ambitious: to serve petit fours in something that felt like a true conclusion to an experience – not just a box, but a moment. Working closely with Spring Copenhagen, the idea was shaped and refined, and together we settled on Diplo – in dark-stained oak, designed specifically for this purpose by StudioBaki – its distinctive edge and elegant heft made it a natural extension of The Samuel’s aesthetic and narrative.
The collaboration was about a shared staging of the unexpected. A box that became an experience. A finale that became a talking point. A petit four served with a story.
Diplo became a living stage, not just a box. When guests lifted the lid, they initially thought it was the bill. Instead, they were greeted by chocolate nibs and handmade petit fours – tiny, explosive moments of aroma, flavour and surprise.
The Samuel has got both its standing and its passion just right. The restaurant, where classic French and Southern European cuisine meet uncompromising quality, was awarded a Michelin star just four months after opening. Proof that details like Diplo, when used correctly, don’t just look good – you can feel them.
| As co-owner Rasmus Knude puts it: “Our restaurant expresses who we are as people. We’re a bit different… in that classic Southern European way. When guests open the box, they’re met by a little explosion of scents.” |
This collaboration is a living example of how good design can enhance the guest experience – and become a memory in its own right.
