Jens Ivan Christoffersen preferred to work in wood. This was partly down to his training as a carpenter and structural engineer, but above all because wood has its own beautiful grain and lends itself naturally to shaping things both large and small. Wood became J. I. Christoffersen's métier – from unique toys and extensive house renovations to getting a broken old wooden glider back in the air. For J. I. Christoffersen, good design was something that delighted the eye – while also being useful in everyday life. The design had to be simple, classic and, above all, truly fine craftsmanship. He used to say that good design is like the scent of a flower. And that fragrant flower blooms when a design is useful, well crafted and able to work in harmony with other designs.
