Chresten Sommer's designs are meant to appeal to men and women of all ages. They should be simple, highlight the raw beauty of the wood and ideally combine the natural with the childlike and sweet – and, of course, always be hand-turned. It is essential to him that his figures have exactly the right proportions and exactly the right expression. He is only truly satisfied when he feels it is his best design yet. It has always been handcraft – with the emphasis on hand – that drew him in. And it was this fascination with the craft that led him to take up wood design as a hobby 15 years ago.
